Joker

In the media, there have been many depictions of the Joker, who has played roles in Batman, Joker, and the Suicide Squad. These movies portray the Joker as someone who is evil, and very harmful to society. But have you ever wondered what truly went on in his past that drove him to become like this?

We learn that society, parents, and friends all contribute to the person you become. In the movie the Joker, the main character, Arthur Fleck, suffers from the pseudobulbar affect which is involuntary laughing and crying due to a nervous system disorder. This was caused by the head trauma he got when he was abused as a child. Therefore, he deals with having random spurts of laughter in public which can isolate a person very much. It is evident that society treated him very badly due to his disorder. Which demonstrates the reasoning behind many of the actions he performs in the film because of social judgement.

Listen to the first episode of the podcast where we will indulge in the deeper meaning between the connection of psychology and the media. We will discuss the accuracy behind the mental disorders and if the characters actually deal with these conditions in the film. Additionally, we will present our perspective on Arthur's struggles with mental health and issues within society, such as poverty and social judgment.
