American Psycho

First published as a novel in 1990, American Psycho, became a hit film released in 2000. The story follows the main character Patrick Bateman, played by Christian Bale, who is a typically rich, arrogant New York City investment banker working on Wall Street. He ends up gradually killing individuals first with a motive but later moves on to random others. As a viewer, we can see how he has two personas, one which is an investment banker and the other being a killer. American Psycho provides an overview of the personality traits of an individual who may be suffering from a number of potential conditions.

After several brutal murders of individuals, such as associates and women whom he finds to have no worth, he confesses his actions to his lawyer. Neither the lawyer nor numerous other people to whom he confess to believe him, allowing him to get away with these crimes. He acknowledges that he will not get punished, and concludes that his confession meant absolutely nothing. Listen to the episode as we indulge in the reality of his actions and the existence of potential mental conditions.

In this episode, we discuss the behavior of the main character, Patrick Bateman, and how his behavior connects to potential mental disorders and the absence of knowledge and negligence towards those issues. The portrayal of his mental conditions represents the inaccuracy of the media and the exaggeration of certain actions and events in the film.
